Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and no, Virginia, not all stores will be open Thanksgiving Day, contrary to what you might have heard.
There has been something of a backlash, given the number of retailers that will swing open their doors Thanksgiving Day so shoppers can get a jump on Black Friday sales.
It's not just those working at the stores who feel put out by the development but the customers who the retailers hope to attract, despite the fact that an estimated 35 million Americans either went to a store or shopped online last Thanksgiving Day.
Store that won't be open this Thursday include: BJs, Costco, Dillard's, Home Depot, Marshalls, Nordstrom and T.J. Maxx.

A boss can get the most out of workers when they let them know how much they’re appreciated, according to a new study by the online career site Glassdoor.
This flies in the face of some opinions that employees will deliver more while working in a culture of fear.
In fact, just 40 percent of respondents in the Glassdoor survey said they’re inspired to work harder when the boss is breathing down their necks and they're concerned that failure could lead to the unemployment line.
On the other hand, eight in ten workers told Glassdoor they’d be willing to put in extra effort when the boss lets them know they’re doing a good job and they’re an asset to the company.
Forty-six percent of workers say that an occasional treat like snacks, meals or thank you-notes improve morale while nearly a quarter would enjoy a social event outside the office such as a holiday party or happy hour.

How's this for a holiday announcement? A sequel to It's a Wonderful Life, widely regarded as one of the classic Christmas movies in Hollywood history, is planned.
According to Variety, the follow-up will be titled It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, and will center around the unlikeable grandson of George Bailey, the character played by Jimmy Stewart in director Frank Capra's 1946 film.
Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey's daughter Zuzu in the original -- and delivered the memorable line “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!” -- will fill the role of the angel. Jimmy Hawkins, who played Tommy Bailey in the original, and Carol Coombs, who played Janie Bailey, are in talks to return, too.
We've heard of an alligator purse, but this is ridiculous: magician David Blaine literally pulls a baby gator out of Katy Perry's purse in the new ABC special David Blaine: Real or Magic, airing tonight at 9:30 p.m.
Katy is just one of the many big-name stars in the special, which features Blaine traveling around the world demonstrating his amazing feats for people on the street, and for celebrities in their homes. In Katy's case, he's on a rooftop in New York City. Here's a preview.
