Sleeptexting usually occurs in the two hours after a person falls asleep, interrupting a period of deep restorative sleep that the body needs to replenish the brain after a long day.
Episodes of sleeptexting can increase for people taking certain medications, including sleep aids like Ambien.
As for a treatment, Gelb recommends shutting down all electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bed to give the brain time to unwind. It also obviously helps if you don’t fall asleep while holding your phone.
