Last week, I went to the supermarket to get some groceries. I was looking for some of the best bargains like everyone else, but as they usually say, "you get what you paid for". That statement couldn't be more true than what I recently experienced.
I like going to the store where I could use my "savings card"...this is what usually gets me to come back to the same place over and over again. I saw a 20 pack of burgers for $5.99. However, if I had my "savings card" with me, I'd get it for 1/2 price. Great deal, huh? Without thinking about it, I grabbed that box of burgers, knowing that I was gonna eat very well for the next couple of weeks at $3.00 for the pack.
When I got home, I couldn't wait to throw a couple of those patties on the George Foreman grill. Once they were done cooking, I put each of the hot patties into their hamburger buns. One bite of it and...ugh! That was the worst burger I had ever tasted! As I chugged down a glass of apple juice to wash away the terrible mystery meat I was digesting, I read the ingredients and now wished I had looked at that before purchasing the awful burgers. One of them read "soy wheat". So it was made from some healthy grains? Big deal! But what made me sick was seeing the other prime ingredient of "beef hearts". That just did me in and now I've got a bunch of burgers sitting in my freezer and obviously, I'm not going to consume any more of that garbage. Yuck!
Next time I go shopping for burgers, I'll make sure it's 100% beef, even if I have to spend an extra few dollars. Buying cheap is certainly not worth it, especially when it comes to food.
