With the summer winding down, I thought to share with you some of my memorable times of a season gone by, some of you might be able to relate to in some way or another.
Some time ago, before I became a radio air personality, I held summer jobs, starting out as a warehouse worker that made minimum wage cleaning aisles and loading pallets into trucks each day. The money wasn't great, but the economy was flourishing, so it didn't matter. However, I made my most summertime cash delivering pizzas to an affluent town, thanks to tips and mileage. During my days off, I would head to the shore, whether it be Seaside Heights or Wildwood. It was my time to escape from everyone and enjoy the warm ocean air as I relaxed on the sandy beaches. When I got done working on my tan, I would take those walks on the boardwalk and I was like a kid in a carnival or state fair...amusements, games of chance and lots of greasy, yet great tasting food in a time where eating healthy wasn't an issue. And it was also a time when filling up a tank of gas only took $12.00 from my wallet. Finally, if I was meeting up with friends, it would be at an agreed meeting place and time and we'd be there. This was also a time where cell phones were just a luxury item that weighed about 8 pounds. And the internet and e-mail didn't exist back then either!
This is just a sample of what growing up was like...I know from my personal experience that I took things that I had in my life for granted, but looking back on it, I cherish some of those times of an era gone by.
