Many times here in the northeast, we suffer and toil through the dog days of summer with not only the heat, but the higher humidity and occasional thunderstorms as well. Last week, I spent about 5 days in Las Vegas and each day I was there, the temperatures soared to well over 102 degrees. However, I found it to be bearable for whatever it was worth because there's no humidity and no thunderstorms looming by. The only disadvantage to that is your body doesn't seem to sweat; in fact, if you don't keep any water nearby, you'll in a sense "dehydrate" yourself without realizing this. Personally, my mouth, lips and throat were very dry and I was advised to drink lots of water in order to replenish the fluids that "evaporated" from my body just from being out in the intense dry heat of Las Vegas.
Speaking of Las Vegas, this was my third trip out there and I got to spend a little more time on the strip, ate at some fine restaurants and for the first time, I got to visit a little bit of the "old Las Vegas", specifically the Golden Nugget and the Fremont Street area. I also lost about $60 in cash playing video blackjack and video poker. Definitely not my lucky week, but I actually had a lot of fun during my time there.
102.3 WSUS plays lots of great music that everyone can enjoy. One of my favorite artists that I get to play occasionally is Daryl Hall & John Oates. While I was growing up in the southern NJ/Philadelphia area, they were the one pop act that I caught on to when listening to my Panasonic boombox with all the great radio stations they had broadcasting at the time. As a matter of fact, Daryl Hall is on a short solo tour of the northeast U.S. this summer and I am excited that I will be seeing him perform at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA this July. This also gives me an opportunity to plug Daryl's website, www.livefromdarylshouse.com, which features monthly performances straight from his houses in the US & the UK, as well as from some remote location. Check it out when you get a chance!
Until next time...stay dry and cool!
