Now that the holiday season is in gear, it's also time to think about those less fortunate. 102.3 WSUS is running a terrific program aimed at helping the local community with Stuff The Bus. You can make food and cash donations at your local First Hope Bank in Sparta, Hope, Blairstown, Great Meadows, Andover and Hackettstown. All non-perishable food and cash donations will benefit the Sussex County Social Services Food Pantry.
Also, on a personal note, I am asking you all to donate to the American Red Cross to help in their efforts to assist the victims affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Earlier this year, I took a pilgrimage to my ancestors' country to learn more about where my late parents came from and to get to know my dad's side of the family. As evidenced on the photo below, it is a beautiful place and I hope someday to visit again. Happy to report that my relatives are all accounted for and doing fine. Go to www.redcross.org to donate. Every little bit helps and no amount is too small.
I make it no big secret that I am a huge Daryl Hall & John Oates fan. Growing up in the southern NJ area, I was exposed to a lot of differing styles of music, especially "The Sound Of Philadelphia", as made famous by its principal songwriters Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Out of that era came a couple of musicians who were mired into that sound and ultimately came up with their own blend of rock & soul. Hall & Oates were the soundtrack of my life, especially during my formative teenage years.
Fast forward to today and FINALLY, Daryl Hall & John Oates have been nominated for the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Along with other deserving artists, they've got some stiff competition and by December we should know who exactly will be going into this prestigious Hall Of Fame. Stay tuned!
I'm no big fan of the days when they get shorter, the nights get longer and the temperature drops. So I found my way to my old stomping grounds in Atlantic City, even if it was just for one day; the feeling was intoxicating to walk on the beach, smell the salt in the air and seeing & hearing those ocean waves crash along the shore. I took this short video in my attempt to capture that same feeling and share it with you...
So I was dining at a local restaurant in NJ one evening and I couldn't help but notice this one bike chained on a railing next to the entrance. Usually, you'd think an old bike is an old bike...what's the big deal? Well, I felt that I had to snap a photo of it because all I can think of at that moment was the song "Tequila" by The Champs. It sure looked like the centerpiece of the 1985 film "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"!
Many times, I read things...be it Facebook posts or other blogs and someone is posting pictures and videos of their puppies or dogs. They may be cute and all, but I'm sure our feline friends would like some equal time. That's where I come in and thanks to YouTube, I found this short, but cute video of one particular cat. It looks real to me. You be the judge...
