A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly for the Tri-State area, encompassing New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. This was upgraded from a Winter Storm Watch that was originally issued on Friday, and is in effect through Sunday at 6pm.

Potential heavy snowfall is foreseen across Sussex, Monroe, and Carbon Counties, with accumulations potentially reaching between 8 to 12 inches. The snowfall could commence during the afternoon on Saturday, with peak intensity expected on Saturday evening. During this time, snowfall could reach up to an inch per hour. Particularly in areas above 1,500 feet, up to a foot of snow might accumulate. Light snow is projected to continue across the area through Sunday morning, but only minor additional accumulation is anticipated. By Sunday afternoon, the snowfall is expected to cease.

Further south, in Warren, Morris, and Northampton counties, between 4 to 6 inches of snow is predicted during the same time period.

The National Weather Service advises that primary concerns at home or work during a winter storm include loss of heat, power and telephone service, and potential shortage of supplies if storm conditions persist for more than a day. It is recommended to have the following items available: a flashlight and extra batteries; a battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio and portable radio for receiving emergency information; extra food and water, such as dried fruit, nuts, granola bars and other items not requiring cooking or refrigeration; extra prescription medicine; baby items like diapers and formula; first-aid supplies; heating fuel (it's advised to refuel before running out as fuel carriers may not reach you for days after a winter storm); an emergency heat source like a fireplace, wood stove or space heater properly ventilated to prevent fire; a fire extinguisher and smoke alarm (tested monthly to ensure proper working); extra pet food and a warm shelter for pets.
