A recent study has revealed that drivers in New Jersey are the least likely to drive under the influence of alcohol. The study, conducted by Forbes, which examined the percentage of fatal crashes caused by drunk driving across all U.S. states, found that drivers in the Garden State are the least likely to get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol.

The study's findings are interesting, given that nearly 30% of fatal car accidents in November and December 2021 involved a drunk driver. Despite these sobering statistics, New Jersey has emerged as a leader of responsible driving behavior.

Montana took the top spot for the highest rate of drunk driving, followed by South Dakota, and Texas. The study compared all 50 states across six key metrics related to impaired driving.

The Northeast region of the U.S. is home to six of the ten states with the lowest rates of drunk driving. In addition to New Jersey; Delaware, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont scored highly.

According to the study, more than 42 percent of drivers have reported seeing a family member or friend hit the road after having more than one drink. On average, adults can process approximately one alcoholic drink per hour; however it's always safer to have a designated driver.
