In a bid to enhance rideshare safety across New Jersey, a new initiative has been launched in memory of Sami Josephson, a University of South Carolina student and Mercer County native who was tragically killed in 2019 after mistakenly entering the wrong car, believing it to be her Uber.

The heartbreaking incident led to the creation of the #WhatsMyName Foundation by Josephson’s parents, aimed at educating rideshare users about safety measures such as verifying the driver’s name and checking the vehicle’s license plate before getting in.

Tthe New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association has now joined forces with retail giant Walmart to provide the necessary funding and resources to support the foundation’s mission on a statewide level. This partnership aims to ensure that such a tragedy does not recur by spreading awareness and promoting safety precautions among rideshare users.

The #WhatsMyName Foundation continues to honor the memory of Sami Josephson by turning a personal tragedy into a statewide movement for safety, ensuring that her legacy lives on in the form of increased protection for rideshare users across New Jersey.
