Since New Jersey's School Funding Reform Act was changed in 2018. Many rural school districts have faced major reductions in state aid. The money that once came to many school districts in rural Sussex County now goes to urban and suburban school districts in other counties. This year Kittatinny High School saw a one year loss of $929,000 in state aid. Last week the school board made the decision to eliminate 12 positions and 20 programs. Several teachers will loose their jobs including a middle school science teacher, an English teacher, a paraprofessional and business teacher. School Superintendent Craig Hutcheson summed up the difficult budget situation by saying: "This was one of our most challenging budgets ever. The school has been able to absorb the budget deficits over the past several years with very little to no impact on students, programs and staff, but there was no where else to go."
