In New Jersey having up to 6 ounces of weed could soon be legal

Yesterday the New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee approved legislation that would legalize possession of up to 6 ounces of marijuana and make distribution of under one ounce a pot a civil penalty. In New York City it's legal to possess two ounces of weed and in Philadelphia possession of one ounce is legal. The original bill sponsored by Democratic State Senator Teresa Ruiz called for legalization of up to one pound of marijuana. The amended bill also substantially reduces penalties for magic mushrooms. Possession of under once ounce of magic mushrooms would become a disorderly persons offense instead of a felony. The bill goes before the full State Senate on Monday. Until final legislation passes both houses of the state legislature and is signed by the governor marijuana offenses can still lead to arrest in New Jersey. In Pennsylvania full plant medical marijuana use is legal but recreational use is still illegal in most places. New York has recently eased penalties for having small amounts of recreational marijuana.
