Corrosive Material Spilled on Route 94

A section of Route 94 was closed Monday July 16 after corrosive material was spilled. The incident was reported at 8:34 a.m. and the Sussex County HAZMAT team, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Hamburg police and fire departments all responded. The area was reopened after eight hours of work to remove the material.

A Hamburg Police dispatcher said it is likely the the material was hydrochloric acid or muriatic acid. At this time police are unsure who is responsible for the incident.
