Authorities are alleging that a 79 year old Franklin man, has killed his wife of 59 years in their home. Joseph Salokas is alleged to have fatally shot his wife, Loretta and is currently in Newton Medical Center. NJ Herald is reporting that Salokas called 911 after he shot his wife, and is being guarded by local authorities. Authorities are hoping to transfer him for further psychiatric evaluation. The Prosecutor's office believes this is a serious case of mental illness, and they're charging Salokas with first degree murder. My condolences to family and friends of this couple in Franklin. It's a humbling feeling when something like this happens in Sussex County, NJ.
